TWO IMPORTANT MESSAGES

Brothers & Sisters,

I am delighted to inform you that our upcoming Union Meeting in April will be dedicated to discussing and conducting a ratification vote on our Inside Construction Agreement, which is due to expire on May 31st, 2024.

Your active participation and valuable input are essential as we make decisions that will affect all our members.

Here are the details of the meeting:

  • Date: April 2nd, 2024
  • Time: 6:00 pm
  • Location: Embassy Suites Hotel, 311 Hiawatha Blvd., Syracuse

I want to express my gratitude for your dedication to our union and for your active role in shaping our shared future.

In Solidarity,

Alan Marzullo
Business Manager/Financial Secretary

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

I wanted to provide you with an update on the work outlook for Local 43.

In short, our membership is thriving. We currently have an abondance of work for our members with even more projects on the way. It is an exhilarating time to be an IBEW local 43 union electrician!

Right now, one of our main focuses is scaling up to prepare for the 20-year Micron semiconductor plant project in Clay. It is scheduled to break ground late 2024 or early 2025.

This $100 billion mega-campus is New York's largest private investment ever, and its four to five semiconductor fabrication plants will be constructed by a fully unionized workforce under a project labor agreement, including the potential for 3,000 IBEW members.

As we prepare for this groundbreaking opportunity, here are some additional projects we will be dispatching our members to over the next few months:

  • $370 million Oneida Nation casino expansion
  • $60 million Point Place Casino in Bridgeport
  • $85 million Onondaga County Aquarium
  • $30 million STEM School
  • $80 million Syracuse Hancock Airport Expansion

The Micron project will power our local economy and boost domestic manufacturing for years, which means long-term employment for Local 43 members. But that is not all. This initiative is already sparking other investments and fueling job growth in the area. Because of its size, this Micron project is a monumental opportunity for our community.

It's been decades since major factories like Carrier, Bristol Myers Squibb, and GE employed IBEW Local 43 members in numbers. Today, Local 43 is expanding its business and dispatch office staff and growing its training pipeline. In addition to new pre-apprenticeships, the $7 million training center expansion will double our apprenticeship class when it is completed in late May.

For Local 43, the Micron project represents not just a significant undertaking but a transformative opportunity, one that underscores the pivotal role of organized labor in shaping our collective future. As we gear up to meet the demands of this historic initiative, it's imperative to acknowledge the unwavering support we've received from the Biden-Harris administration.

Through initiatives such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the CHIPS and Science Act, the administration has paved the way for the resurgence of domestic manufacturing and the revitalization of American industries—a feat that holds profound implications for our members and our community at large.

In closing, I wish to express my deepest gratitude to each one of you for your unwavering dedication, solidarity, and commitment to advancing the collective interests of our union. Together, we stand poised at the precipice of a new era—one defined by opportunity, growth, and solidarity.

In Solidarity,

Alan Marzullo
Business Manager/Financial Secretary
